Schools Expo

	The idea behind the Schools Expo at the Saddleworth show is to enable young people in primary and secondary schools to showcase their talents in Business and Enterprise with the chance of an audience/customer base of over 8,000 people. The challenge is to plan, design, develop and market (sell) a product or service at Saddleworth Show on 14th June 2009. Last year, led by Loretta Kay, Business and Enterprise co-ordinator at Saddleworth School teams from six primary schools (St. Anne’s, Lydgate; Friezeland; Greenfield; Hey with Zion; Holy Trinity, Dobcross; Christ Church, Denshaw; and Saddleworth School) who initially expressed interest in the project came together for a Brainstorming/Planning day at the school. Here they looked at how their team could work together to determine and meet customer needs, and consider what would be involved in designing/developing a service or product which would generate interest and income. What resources would they need? What would it cost? Who would their customers be? How much income would they hope to generate and how much profit? After Easter teams submitted their plans and then moved into implementation ahead of the show. On the day they were housed in a special area within the Showground (The Satellite Club) and showed great enthusiasm and ingenuity in marketing their projects. They were judged for different aspects of their project and won in the following categories: Best product or service Saddleworth School Y7 Best Teamwork Holy Trinity, Dobcross Most creative/innovative product or service Christ Church, Denshaw Profit and organisation Friezeland Best overall team Greenfield Primary Best Trade Stand Hey with Zion Judges were drawn from Manchester Chamber of Commerce; Oldham Chronicle (Steve Duthie) and Oldham Metro Rotary Club.
